Sociological Perspective Essay
This first unit has been all about how sociologists see the world, the sociological perspective. For this first assessment, write a two paragraph essay that examines your own life from a sociological perspective. Please do this Google Docs and remember to grant me permissions Your essay should be two really well-developed paragraphs that follow the directions below.
Three founding paradigms for Sociology:
Structural-Functional
Conflict
Symbolic Interaction
STEP 1: Choose ONE of the paradigms (above) that we learned about in class:
Write a paragraph that does the following:
A. Explains what the paradigm has come to focus on.
B. Connects the paradigm to what Coontz talks about in the Parent-Teen conflict article and include specific examples from your own life.
C. Explain either of the theories or Social Construction of Reality or Sociological Imagination and how you might use that to examine your specific example.
STEP 2: Choose a different paradigm than what you wrote about above.
Write a paragraph that
D. Explains what this paradigm has come to focus on.E. Connects the paradigm to something you wrote about on your student demographic survey that you filled out on the first day of class. Give a specific example from your survey. Be authentic in your writing.F. Choose the other theory that you did NOT choose in C above (STEP 1) and explain both what the theory is and how it might apply to your example (in part E above).
In order to MEET STANDARDS for this evidence, you must:
- Fully and accurately answer BOTH steps above.
- Use proper grammar and prose. Be sure to spell check and proofread.
- Turn this assessment in before our next class period by filling out this Google Form.
