It can be at school, on the street, and even just reading the news sometimes can make me feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. Generalization and putting people in categories can help us approach people and connect with them. However, while those assumptions can serve as tools to unite, many people easily turn them to prejudices, and create close-minded beliefs on others. It is extremely important to always keep an open mind when approaching diversity. While some people may fit into set categories of their group, each person is ultimately unique and stereotypes hurt their uniqueness. In the end, the challenge is to realize and be conscious of our own use of stereotypes and categories.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11321000197213261674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5912129842976027525.post-64232627705033092052011-02-10T13:49:00.631-06:002011-02-10T13:49:00.631-06:00I thought the activity and the mini - movie clip w...I thought the activity and the mini - movie clip were both interesting. When we were divided into groups, each one kept judging each other based on what they wore. Many things were said, but most of it was because we didn't have an open mind. Since I was in the "colored t-shirt" group, some people said things like, "they're depressed with their own lives". Not only does this happen in classrooms, but it can happen in friend groups as well. There are some groups at school that I want to be a part of, but I'm too scared to be a part of because I'm not good enough or I'm not dressed the right way. Then I think about the friends I have and realize how lucky I am, because there are some people that come and go, but true friends stay forever.Alexishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17041109574605672847noreply@blogger.com
